Suryadatta National School had organized an industrial visit to a pencil factory in Chinchwad. The name of the Pencil Factory is Galaxy Pencil Factory, the brand produced was KKLEEO. This factory has been working since 2005 and has completed 11 years.
When we reached the factory we were split into 2 groups. First, we had been to the section where crayons were made and packed. There we got to know that crayons are made up of wax, mold, raw materials, and colored atom. They told us that in a day 2,000 cartons are made.
Next, we went to the area where sharpeners were fitted with their blades, it was made of plastic, blade, screws, raw materials there were different areas for black fitting, making of sharpener & packing of sharpener. In 12 hrs 23,000 sharpeners are made.
Then we had been to the eraser section where the raw materials, oil, talcum powder were kept in a machine where the temperature was 24,000 degree C. Then it is processed in a machine following it was sent out in 2 lines kept in cold water to cool and further was cut into pieces. Finally, the easers were packed by a machine. 4,00,000 erasers are made in a day.
Pencils were made in a different section, where we got to know that, they use graphite, 10 plastics, talcum powder, CS powder, sal (a type of plastics) instead of wood they use polymer. In one day 3,00,000 pencils are made. Then the body, lead & body colour is combined and rent through a machine inline big pieces then they are polished, shaped, and dipped for every process different sections.
At last, the packing is done by handicapped people, putting into boxes was done by blind people and they had hands-on experience in this field.
From this trip, we did learn the making of pencils, erasers, and shapers. It also taught us that where there is a will there is a way.
By Ms. Tejswani Sharma:
The Indian Army has always inspired us, so imagine our delight when we were informed that we were visiting. The National Defence Academy, the joint training institute for the Army, Navy, and Air Force on the 17th Kargil Vijay Diwas.
Situated in the lush greenery of the Khadakwasla lake, about 20 km away from Pune, this is where the dreams of Kargil war hero Capt. Manoj Kumar Pandey Vir Chakra and many others to become a soldier come true. This was the place where many war heroes are born.
NDA alumni have led and participated in every major conflict in which the Indian Armed Forces have been called into action since the academy was founded. Alumni include three Param Vir Chakra and eleven Ashoka Chakra recipients. The NDA has produced 28 service chiefs of staff, including the current chiefs of staff of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. It is a lifetime experience to visit the Academy, if only just to understand the intense and tough training students just out of Class 12 go that metamorphosis’s shy, indisciplined teenagers into confident smart cadets on the way to becoming officers of our armed forces.
The Equestrian training Area included the graves of horses like ‘Slint Warriors’ and ‘Black Velnet’. We were touched and silently paid tribute to the heroes who had won the country laurels.
The magnificent Sudan Block is the administrative hub of the academy. If the imposing architecture and the beautifully manicured lawns don’t impress you enough, the names of the Martyrs inscribed on the pillars will.
At the Hut of Remembrance, we paid homage to the Martyrs who had trained at NDA and lost their lives for their motherland.
The Air Force Training Team where cadets are trained in military aviation and basic exposure to flying in the Super Demona aircraft.
‘Super Demona’ is an Austrian aircraft, assembled in India with a speed of 250 km/h. Unlike the fights planes, this plane had its wheels fixed along with gliding wings. The aircrafts in the hangar are truly imposing sight.
We watched a 30-minute film showcasing the training details of the Academy here. This impressive double-storeyed auditorium with a seating capacity of over 1700, hosts lectures, presentations, musical evenings, debates, quiz competitions, etc., in addition to the Convocation Ceremony which awards the students with a Graduate degree.
The largest inter-service museum of our country held some prized possessions of the Museum including Sword of Captain Console Fernandez of Cordoba used in the Dynastic Wars of the XV and XVI Century, a Sapphire studded silver plaque, original Stone Age weapons, an Ivory Dinner Gong from Kenya, captured Pakistani and Portuguese flags and Uzi sub-machine guns among many others. But what caught my eye was the training suit of the first Indian cosmonaut, Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma also an illustrious alumnus of the Academy. I was thrilled to see this as he is one of my inspirations to study further into the field of space science.
As we walked around the Weapon Technology Park we saw various weapon systems and equipment used during actual warfare.
We drove past the impressive parade Ground where the Cadets were training for the Parade. You could hear the thumping of the cadets’ feet as they practiced smartly.
All too soon we headed back to our school Suryadatta National School, now quieter and pensive. This visit to NDA brought home to us the immense sacrifice and courage of our soldiers and we returned home with a renewed sense of patriotism. A salute to these brave sons of India for their courage and Valour.

Students of Suryadatta National School had been taken to Monginis cake factory. The factory has been working for the past 20 years. They have only one factory and it has 90 outlets in Pune. In a day they produce 10,000 cakes. For decorating 1 cake it takes 2-3 minutes. They deliver 2 rounds in a day.
First children saw how cakes are coated with cream then how the icing was done beautifully. They showed chocolate cake, pineapple cake & black forest cake. Then children wore headgear and went inside the factory where they saw the baked cakes, how they were iced, coated, decorated, and packed. Many people were doing different work like coating, icing, decorating & packing. There were different sections for different cakes like chocolate, pineapple, black forest, and blueberry cakes. The temperature at the cold storage was -8C. The cream was prepared at -4C temperature. It is prepared with vegetable oil, thick milk and it is whipped in a machine. For colouring they use vegetable oils. Everything was edible.
It was a wonderful experience for teachers and students.
Students of Suryadatta National School, Bavdhan went for a field trip to Chittaranjan Vatika, Model Colony. The garden was very beautifully developed and was rich with a variety of plants and trees. Students watched different botanical plants there and EVS teachers gave them good information about the plants. Students also saw different signboards of Traffic signals and learned the importance of following traffic rules and regulations. The garden was equipped with a nice Gym which was open for children and children had a gala time playing there.
Students had their food together with the teachers. It was a wonderful experience being with nature. This was a learning for them that nature is our biggest school where we learn to give as nature is continuously giving something to us in the form of sunlight, water, fresh air, shadow, flowers, fruits, and much more. Nature never says that you are being cruel to me so I will not give you fresh air. This quality of giving we need to inculcate in our students which Suryadatta National School is doing at its best and in future also such activities will keep on happening which will develop these students into sensitive human beings.

The students of Suryadatta National School visited Galaxy Pencil Manufacturing Company as a part of their Academic Educational Curriculum along with their teachers and staff members. They were very keen, excited, and eager to see the process of manufacturing the stationery items that they use every day even before they left school. The students accompanied by their teachers were taken to the factory where they were given complete information as to how Pencils, Erasers, Crayons, and Sharpeners under their brand name KKLEEO are made and were given detailed information regarding the raw materials that are used to prepare them. Each and every process stepwise was explained in detail to students as to how eraser and pencils are cut into shapes, how the name is printed on them, how the rubber behind the pencil is inserted, how the eraser is wrapped with a cover, how sharpener is fitted with a screw etc. The complete information was briefed so well that the students kept on asking questions and were clearing whatever doubts they had in their minds. Students of the 1st and 2nd standard were also asking one question after another.
They were also shown the process of making crayons in the machine. They were explained in detail as to how the crayons are colored and how does it takes its shape. After seeing the process of making crayons, they were shown as to how the crayons are packed in boxes. They were then taken to the area where pencils were packed by blind people, mentally retarded people who were smoothly doing their work without any mistake. Students were given a demonstration as to how even though the employees were blind; they could pack the pencils even without counting them. They rightly picked up 10 or 12 pencils by the touch of their hands when they were told to do so even without counting. This created an inner feeling among students that nothing is impossible if you have the determination to do it.
The students were taken through the different units of the factory to view the various processes involved in the making of stationery. It was a wonderful experience for the students to know so much about the stationery items that they use and were still bombarding questions and waited patiently for their answers. The visit to the factory was very interesting and educational for students because pencils, erasers, sharpeners are the things that they use almost every day. They were amazed to see the number of equipment, work, and manpower that go into making pencils, erasers, and sharpeners. From the initial mixing area to the capping of the erasers, they saw how different raw materials were combined and processed to create different types of colored pencils. More than lakh of each and every stationery is manufactured every day by the employees.
Students gave a vote of thanks to Mr. Rajendra Dhoka, the Owner of Galaxy Pencil Manufacturing Company, and his team members for giving them an opportunity for such a wonderful detailed explanation and to give them a chance to see their entire manufacturing process.
All of them were given a Kit of a stationery item as a token of the complimentary gift from the owner and his team members before bidding goodbye to them.
