At Suryadatta National School,Pune learning through play is fundamental to our children’s education, helping them to develop the necessary skills in life. It’s a universally acknowledged fact that children pay more attention to stories when there are visual cues like pictures or animations to flesh out the narrative. So teachers of the Surya Kids ,the Pre- Primary Section of Suryadatta National School organized a Puppet show to stimulate the children’s imagination, encourage creative play and discovery .The teachers used hand puppets as a wonderful interactive way to introduce narrative to the excited students. As the story unfolded at the skilled hands of the teachers and Elephants and Peacocks and Monkeys were brought to life the students watched in rapt silence. but at the entry of Toto their favorite character they clapped their hands in glee. The theme was Wild Animals and the puppets provided a focus for role play, encouraging the children’s imagination and involvement in activities .Using very simple articles the teachers transformed the play area into a Jungle .The Music that was played while scene and puppet changeovers were taking place were also enjoyed by the students. In the end the students all song “I am Polly the peacock”.
The puppet show was a super success as it was a great way to get the children involved in actually telling the story!
